An Open Letter From the Chairperson, NWT Arts Council

Greetings, artists and arts audiences!

Our north is brimming with artists who generously share their talents through a wonderful myriad of arts, crafts and entertainment that are good for all our souls. Most artists feel the yearning to create come from deep within their soul and we sincerely encourage those creations in whatever medium they are crafted.

In the Northwest Territories, we have the opportunity to celebrate the inspiring works and activities of our arts and cultural community all year 'round, and also during the second annual national Culture Days event, September 30th - October 2nd, 2011.

Individual artists, diverse cultural groups, organizations,
municipalities, and festivals old and new, small and large are coming together in the pan-Canadian volunteer movement known as Culture Days to catalyze and inspire greater public participation in arts and culture. Culture Days is open to all communities and individuals who believe in the importance of arts and culture in Canadian life.

Please applaud our artists, arts groups and cultural workers and volunteers throughout the NWT for their ongoing efforts to make the arts available to all residents!  You can explore the free activities and events going on in your region at the website: www.culturedays.ca

The NWT Arts Council itself is making changes to better fill its role in serving the NWT arts community. Let us all strive for excellence as we move forward through 2011 and 2012.

With regards,
Laurie L. Young
