The Northwest Territories is proud to be a Contributing Partner of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The Olympic Winter Games will be held February 12 – 28, 2010, and the Paralympic Winter Games will be held March 12 – 21, 2010.
The Vancouver 2010 Winter Games is the first time the Olympics have been hosted by a Canadian city since the Calgary Winter Olympics over 20 years ago. The Vancouver 2010 Winter Games will bring a national and international audience that can often be beyond the Government of the Northwest Territories’ reach and provides a rare opportunity to promote the NWT’s culture, heritage and unique tourism destinations to the world.
The GNWT’s participation at the 2010 Winter Games will range from developing leadership skills in our youth through the Youth Ambassadors Program; highlighting territorial artists and performers during NWT Day on February 19th; to the Arctic House, which will provide a focal point for Northern and NWT participation at the Games, as well as a retail location for northern artists, and an avenue to promote territorial business and investment opportunities.
Other activities leading up to and during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games can be found under the GNWT’s three objectives for its participation in the 2010 Winter Games reflecting the priorities of the 16th Legislative Assembly identified in the document Northerners Working Together.
