National Arts Support and Advocacy Agencies

Alliance of Canadian Societies of Art (ACSA) was originally created as an informal federation of art societies to discuss strategies, deal with common problems faced by art organizations, and to establish and codify art-related conventions.

Artists In Canada is a national directory of Canadian artists, art galleries, associations and art resources. Websites related to the visual arts in Canada are invited to add their link.Artists In Canada maintains the directory of links as a free service to the arts community. The directory is stored in a database where site visitors can search the links using a simple search interface. Visitors are invited to add their visual arts-related links to the directory.

Canadian Aboriginal Festival is Canada's largest Aboriginal festival and presents Music Awards, Market Place, Fashion Show, Lacrosse Competition, Traditional Teachings, Film & Video, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Workshops.

Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences administers the Juno awards which recognizes and celebrates excellence of achievement in recorded music.

Canadian Arts Presenting Association / l’Association canadienne des organismes artistiques is a pan-Canadian association serving the performing arts touring industry.

Canadian Artists' Representation/le Front des artistes canadiens assists members of the visual arts profession to make individual and group contributions to the growth and development of the visual arts in Canada. Membership in CARFAC National is automatic when joining through a provincial affiliate organization. In recent years, CARFAC has offered numerous workshops in BC, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Canadian Artists Representation Copyright Collective Inc. is a copyright collective that licenses and administers copyright for visual and media artists in Canada. CARCC is given the Authorization Right to its members' copyright and negotiates fees and issues licenses for the use of artists' copyrights. It also administers reprography royalty payments to visual artists across Canada.

Canadian Children's Book Centre promotes the reading and writing of Canadian children's books by outreach to the general public, support to writers and illustrators, and resources for publishers, educators, librarians and booksellers.

Canadian Conference of the Arts is the national forum for the arts and cultural community in Canada.

Canadian Film Centre is Canada's national training centre for film, television and new media professionals.

Canadian Music Competition strives to discover talented musicians and to assist them in developing a high level of excellence. Through a programme consisting of various instrumental and vocal categories and with age-specific criteria, it invites musicians to meet its standards of achievement and performance. Competitors participate first at the local level, then move on to the provincial and to the national finals.

Cultural Human Resources Council strives to be at the centre of vision and forward thinking in the area of cultural human resources development. CHRC brings together representatives of arts disciplines and cultural industries in the cultural sector to address the training and career development needs of cultural workers – artists, creators, technical staff, managers and all others engaged professionally in the sector, including the self-employed.

Encyclopedia of Canadian Theatre collects and disseminates information on plays, playwrights and theatre practitioners. It does not respond to requests for information, auditions, bookings, or tickets. The Athabasca University currently hosts the web site, with an editorial board comprising members of the Association for Canadian Theatre Research.

Film Studies Association of Canada aim is to foster and advance scholarships in the history and art of film and related fields as well as to aid those teaching film and video production at Canadian colleges and universities.

Glass Art Association of Canada (GAAC, 1983) is a volunteer, member-run organization uniting a glass community spread over a huge and diverse geographical area. We offer Canadian glass makers, students, collectors and interested individuals a communication network through the publication of the Gazette, our quarterly journal.

Playwrights Guild of Canada is a national association of professional and emerging playwrights which provides programs and services that support, promote, and advocate for its members.

Ontario Association of Art Galleries (OAAG,1968 ) was established to encourage the ongoing and cooperative development of the province's public art galleries, artist-run centres, art museums, visual arts exhibition spaces and arts-related organizations. Over the years OAAG's membership has expanded to include commercial art galleries, consultants and other related businesses.

Professional Association Of Canadian Theatres(PACT)formed to promote and gain recognition for professional theatre in Canada. It provides services to theatre companies through the sharing of resources and knowledge and attempts to connect theatres across Canada through open communications via the organization. It also attempts to develop working standards with theatre professionals and their associations.

Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) is the Canadian copyright collective for the public performance of musical works. It administers the performing rights of member composers, lyricists, songwriters and their publishers, and those of affiliated international societies by licensing the use of their music in Canada.

Storytellers of Canada Is a national organization of storytellers whose aim is to develop storytelling as a distinct, recognised art form. It facilitates communication among storytellers and about storytelling.
