Main Museum - Displays:
A vast array of mining related artifacts have been set up on display in the main room of the building. This was the gymnasium for the former recreation hall where the mine community held dances and set up chairs for weekly movies. The museum society spent many years collecting mining related artifacts from around the Northwest Territories, and they are now housed safely in this facility. Individual artifacts have been put inside large glass display cabinets. Other displays include life-scale scenes from underground, the mill, or the geology offices where furniture and industrial equipment has been set up to resemble the actual working conditions of the old mines. These life-size diorammas include a mine office, the assay lab office, mine commissary and post office, prospectors camp, and drift mining. On the walls of the main hall are old maps, numerous old vintage signs, and other related display material. There are plaques and descriptions of how mines operate and the people that worked at them. The displays also go through the history of mining in both the Northwest Territories and Nunvaut Territory, from the first explorers and prospectors to the current diamond mining industry. There are also detailed descriptions of geology and how minerals are recovered from the rock. The display area is laid out in a fashion that is easy for the visitor to follow and understand.
